This design resulted in low efficiency when drilling in hard formations, and the alloy teeth wore rapidly. In the 1960s, Hughes Corporation introduced roller cone bit technology to its ball-tooth down-the-hole drill bits, ushering in a new era for down-the-hole drill bits. With the widespread use of medium- and high-pressure down-the-hole hammers, drill bits are required to withstand greater impact energy, achieve higher penetration speeds, and exhibit greater wear resistance. Button-tooth down-the-hole drill bits have seen rapid development due to their adaptability, high efficiency, rapid drilling speeds, and reduced auxiliary labor. Advances in alloy sintering technology have recently led to the development of alloy teeth with ultra-coarse grains and nano-grains. These new alloy teeth meet toughness requirements while maintaining the alloy's wear resistance, significantly expanding the application range of alloy teeth in down-the-hole drill bits.
